1. Optimize your Instagram bio
An Instagram bio should be appealing because people like and follow what they see. The profile picture and bio should have a specific aesthetic and good quality.
Like blogger Tiffy, keep your resume with a short description of what you do and post it on your account. Tiffy's account states that she posts simple recipes for her users with a link to complete recipes and a Kaidong website where she promotes some food products.
Similarly, you can briefly tell your audience who you are and what you do. Don't overdo it and write paragraphs in your CV; try to keep it as short and detailed as possible.
Make your account public
Switch your account to public instead of private because people follow you after they see your content.Instagram also has three types of accounts available: personal, business and creator.
When you switch to Entrepreneur or Creator mode, you'll see a lot of growth and get the appropriate space, features, and details on how your account will grow more.
Brand agencies, companies, etc. usually use a business account, while influencers, actors, etc. use a creator account.
3. Be consistent in your daily disclosures
Consistent posting plays the most important role in the growth of your Instagram account. Learn to understand Instagram's algorithm and how it displays posts. As you post more and if your account is public, your rolls or posts will be visible in other people's feeds.
The fact that you don't post every day is not a problem. However, you need to establish a posting schedule, for example, every alternate day, every Saturday, etc., by making sure that you follow that posting schedule consistently.
However, the quality of your submissions should be good and, at least initially, try to maintain a certain style or aesthetic.
Take a look at the pop star's account and you'll notice how her posts complement each other in a similar style.
4. Use hashtags
Hashtags are essential to the growth of your Instagram account. People use these hashtags when they want to search for a certain thing, which is exactly what will help your posts show up in other people's feeds.
I searched #christmas🎄 on Instagram, which led me to various pictures with the same hashtag I was looking for.
One important tip is to use relevant hashtags that many people use to make your post more visible in searches. With evolving technology, you can also use AI-generated hashtags by using relevant suggestions in AI tools like ChatGPT, Bing AI, Bard, etc.
For example, I used the prompt for ChatGPT: "Generate the most relevant and most used hashtags to post on Instagram on Sunday".
In addition, you can also indicate what is in your picture so that ChatGPT can provide you with related hashtags.
You can use any number of hashtags for your posts. However, you should not overdo it and use more than 100 hashtags. A maximum of 15 to 20 and a minimum of 8 to 10 hashtag uses is doable.
5. Stay up to date with the latest trends, songs and reels
Keeping up with current trends, patterns, songs and posts from other internet personalities and meme accounts is a must. This is important because according to Instagram's algorithm, viewers are most likely to see trending posts.
The challenge in the image above shows what these current trends are. The person in this video asked his co-workers to jump without bending their knees, which is hilarious.
You can also identify trending songs or videos on Instagram because when you scroll through the reels, they have a trending arrow next to the song and video audio. Another way to find trending things is to type trending reels or trending songs into the Instagram search.
It also gives you a deep insight into what people may like and dislike, while keeping you up to date with newly released songs, movies, fashion trends, current events around the world, etc.
6. Post at the right time
They say that posting at the right time is unimportant, but it matters most. Audiences are usually available in certain timelines, so the most important factor is to post at the right time to get more followers.
Usually, the best time to post on Instagram is between 9am and 1pm. However, the right time for you may be different and depends on various factors such as your audience's country, time zones, age group, etc.
With Instagram analytics, you can see when you're getting the most likes, views, shares, etc., and plan the timing of posts based on the highest audience engagement. Custom analytics will be the best tool to help you understand your audience's activity and what times they are likely to interact with your posts.
7. Use engaging subtitles
Your post descriptions should be engaging, which means they need to be interesting or have some sort of humorous approach. These headlines give your post meaning.
For fun posts, you can keep these descriptions short and simple. If the post is informative or sentimental, or if you want to provide more in-depth information about the post in the captions, then break them up into short paragraphs or bullet format.
Another method of generating descriptions is to use artificial intelligence tools such as Bing AI, Bard AI, ChatGPT, etc. For example, I entered a ChatGPT prompt: "Generate captions for my Instagram post with pictures from my trip".
ChatGPT will offer you several options to choose from. (See screenshot below)
You can also give him a detailed suggestion by describing your idea and intention with a post. Following the challenge, he will provide you with suggestions that you can implement.
In addition, engaging captions pave the way for more followers to interact with your post and gain some at the same time.
8. Collaborate
Collaborate with other influencers, brands, companies and celebrities to create new content and grow your audience. These collaborations can also help you get attention from other people's audiences.
Plus, if people find you interesting, they will follow you. Plus, when you collaborate with other influencers or people, you'll see an increase in engagement as you gain the attention of your audience and theirs.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to reach out to influencers and other people in your industry.
9. Stay active on Instagram
Staying active on Instagram is important so that Instagram prioritizes the visibility of your posts in other people's feeds. Many people tend to not use Instagram and stay offline for many days, which doesn't give them room to grow their follower count.
Take the time to research your account, use it at least three times a day and post every day to get faster and better results.
10. Switch to live streaming from time to time
Live streaming on Instagram is one way to continually increase your followers. With live videos, users interact with you and your followers engage more.
You can see Doja Cat live and on the left you can see how fans can chat with her. Even Ariana Grande has weighed in.
Keep the interaction positive and gentle. Try different methods such as Q&A and random giveaways to keep users coming back.
11. Involve your friends
Engage with your followers and make friends. Give your followers personal responses through comments. Appreciate their compliments, update them on other things, use emoticons in your text and provide new information.
Take a look at the right side of the image and check how people interact with your posts in the comments section.
Publish stories that ask people for their opinions with yes-or-no, this-or-that question stickers that keep users interested in your content. You can also practice giving away giveaways from time to time to keep your users constantly curious.
As a creator, you can also post some challenges, ask your followers to complete the challenge, and offer a gift for the winner in return.
12. Be genuine, not overreaching
Being real, and not reeled in, means your content should have some sort of originality or signature (your style). Create reels, videos and posts with a trendy sound and style.
Come for your unique style and keep it real to your audience. People like creators who are real and authentic to their audience. Rather than showing the things you haven't done, try to show the things you have accomplished - good and bad. Balancing both is important so that your audience has an idea of how you are showing your real side here.
13. Be innovative
Be innovative and create new ideas for your Instagram account. Create and post content that is unconventional, which you can take the help of AI tools like ChatGPT and give it relevant suggestions, such as "Generate ideas for posting a good picture on Instagram".
Attract new audiences with fresh content and new ideas. There are different niches, such as fashion bloggers, foodbloggers, dancers, singers, etc. Explore all categories and try to find something innovative for yourself.
14. Educate yourself
In addition to fun and entertaining videos, provide users with informative and motivational content. Your Instagram followers should feel comfortable and excited to interact with you.
For example, you can share personal experiences about your health and fitness journey to encourage your audience to live a healthy life.
Discuss health issues, anxiety disorders and stress with your followers and give them a realistic approach to these views.
15. Interacting with other communities on Instagram
Interact with other communities and grow your account. Find friends who share your tastes. Chat with people, create groups on Instagram and build a safe space for communication.
Try to understand your audience and learn to communicate with them in real time. Always like, share and reply to promote other creators' content. Create your own community through Instagram.
16. Spread the word about your Instagram account through other social media apps
Another way to gain followers is by sharing videos, video clips and Instagram posts on all other social media platforms. For example, you can target your audience through Facebook, Snapchat, or through a shout out on your YouTube channel if you have one.
This way, your Instagram account will become more visible and your following will skyrocket. So keep sharing links to your account and post these stories on Whatsapp, Snapchat, etc.
17. Be trustworthy
People will only enjoy your content if it's relevant to them. Relatable means something that everyone has experienced in one way or another in their lives. Don't force yourself to be relatable; observe people to see what they will and won't like.
Staying relevant is important so that people will interact with your content, which in turn will directly affect your followers.
18. Post quality images and videos
The quality of images and videos depends on the aspect ratio of Instagram. You can also edit or enhance photos using Instagram filters.
If you want to post high quality photos, you can try one thing:
Tap your profile photo > tap the three horizontal lines > open settings > go to Account > go to Data usage or Mobile data usage > tap Upload in highest quality.
19. Know your audience
Knowing your audience is a must to understand what your users like. To do this, you can check demographics, conduct research, and create a buyer persona, which means thinking from the buyer's perspective to understand your target audience.
Change your posts and also keep an eye on current trends, as Instagram's algorithm visibility of posts and roles is based on current trends.
20. Use analytics to track your progress
Track your progress with Instagram reports and check the reach of your content by number of days and top countries. Compare timelines for likes, shares, views and total followers.
These reports will help you identify where your account needs to grow.
